Web Sites You May Find Useful.

Have you heard of Studysearch?  It is an Australian search engine for secondary and primary school students.

It uses the Google search engine, but it is not a Google site.  Commercial sites have been filtered out unless they have some free educational content.  Check it out, it is very user friendly!  It looks like this:

Australian Book Safari

In support of Children’s Book Week’s theme of “Book Safari” this year, we have set up a number of displays.  We feature Australian animals and books in our Australian Book Safari, as well as animals and books from other countries.  If you are in Perth in the next week or so, come in and have a look.  SIDE staff have contributed to the displays by bringing in their favourite soft toy animals.

We also have most of the nominated books and winners for 2009 on display.  The winner of the Older Readers’ category is “Tales from Outer Suburbia” by Shaun Tan.  It is a collection of fifteen stories – not your usual short story collection!  The stories and illustrations are superb, quirky and thought-provoking – an amazing book

One of the Honour Books in this category is “Into White Silence” by Anthony Eaton.  It is a very different adventure story set in the 1920s, about a secret expedition to the Antarctic.  It is presented by a narrator, with extracts from the journal of the main character – a great read.
