Public Holiday

Hello everyone

Monday June 4th is a public holiday in Western Australia for WA Day.

The Foundation Day holiday in June has officially been renamed WA Day, under new laws which recognise Aboriginal people as the original inhabitants of the land.

Premier Colin Barnett said the name change, which had support from both sides of government, was more inclusive of all Western Australians and a better way to celebrate the state’s achievements.

Foundation Day marked the day on June 1, 1829, when the first English settlers reached WA and established the Swan River Colony.
