On Thursday 16th February Mandy de Vos, Cathy Smith and I flew up to Kalgoorlie to visit five SIDE Primary School students who live in Ora Banda. We caught the early morning flight and then drove the 70kms out to Ora Banda.
Diamon who is in Kindy, Ryan Pre-Primary, Troy Year 5 and Jaiden and Joel Year 7 were eagerly waiting with their Mum Kiri to meet us as we drove up the dirt road.
At this stage it was lovely and cool, but temperatures did reach 42 degrees as the day wore on. We didn’t really notice this too much as we were in the lovely cool school room and then later the students walked us over to the historic Ora Banda Hotel where we had a delicious lunch. The hotel belongs to their grandparents and the kids very proudly gave us the grand tour.
It was a fabulous day with lots of great activities. It gave the teachers a real opportunity to get to know their students and this was also true for the students as well.
We drove back to Kalgoorlie later in the afternoon and had enough time to have a look at the famous Super Pit. We were on an early morning plane the next day and back in Leederville for work before morning tea.
